Our Spiritual Foundation
Our faith is centered on the Akshar Purushottam philosophy. We believe and worship:
- Swaminarayan Bhagwan as the one and only Parabrahman, the ultimate, all-powerful God.
- Gunatitanand Swami as the one and only Aksharbrahman, the eternal abode of God and His ideal devotee.
While there is only one Aksharbrahman, our spiritual path, as shown by our Gurus, teaches that every individual can work towards becoming a pure devotee to worship Parabrahman in the highest manner.
Our Legacy of Service
Our history is built on a foundation of selfless service and devotion. The journey of our community in Powai was pioneered by our revered Gurudev, Dadubhai Patel (Kakaji), who worked tirelessly from 1964 to 1986 for the area's spiritual development, alongside the former Home Minister of India, Shri Gulzarilal Nandaji, at the behest of his Guru, Yogiji Maharaj.
A cornerstone of our history was laid in 1978, when the late Shri Chandrabhan Sharma, Shri Chitranjan Sharma, and Shri Gopal Sharma generously donated the land where our Akshardham Swaminarayan temple proudly stands today.
Our Gurudev Kakaji Maharaj was a devout supporter of saints and leaders who propagated this philosophy, including BSPP Pramukh Swami Maharaj, BSPP Mahant Swami Maharaj, and many others, fostering a spirit of unity.
Growth and Community
To spread this message of pure devotion, our divine master Kakaji Maharaj established the Yogi Divine Society in Mumbai in 1974. The branches of this spiritual tree extended to the United States in 1983, with Dinkar Uncle as the first President. Together with Mahendra Bapu, they established the traditions that remain the heart of our community today.
Our centers have been blessed by the visits of many revered leaders of the Gunatit Samaj, including BSPP Pappaji Maharaj, BSPP Hariprasad Swami Maharaj, BSPP Jasbhai Saheb, and others, who have helped our community grow in many beautiful directions.

Today, with centers all over the world, we continue to practice Kakaji's core teachings of unity and harmony. As the Gunatit Samaj, we rely on our Guru to show us the path to embodying the highest spiritual principles so we may offer pure and selfless devotion to the ultimate Parabrahman.
